Here is your first lesson... If you have been watching artists who are made popular on TV, it is essential that you know the technique they used is called "wet-on-wet," or more traditionally, "Alla Prima".

All this means is that layers of paint are applied over wet paint.
This is important to know because there are specific rules to follow that will help with your success.
